The chance to build a new company with a strong culture brought Mandesh to Pure Sunfarms. He joined from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) where he led the supply chain division as SVP, Supply Chain and Wholesale in preparation for the legalization of adult-use cannabis. Mandesh believes culture is critically important for early-stage companies like Pure Sunfarms, and that there are no days or moments off in creating, building, or emphasizing culture – internally or externally. It’s to be protected at all costs. He believes words like inclusion, belonging, safety, and diversity are not just words to say, but how to act and live. He wants the culture at Pure Sunfarms not just to set the tone here, but for an entire industry.
Michael has always loved building new things. He joined Pure Sunfarms with a variety of experiences across consumer packaged goods, alcohol, tobacco and automotive. He’s learned here that the more change he sees, the more there is to learn, and that speaks to one of Pure Sunfarms’ core values of humility. He believes when you’re building (literally), growing in size and creating high-performing teams, it’s important to do it in a way that embraces culture as well as results, that one can’t be sacrificed for the other. He values an open, honest culture and believes in cultivating an environment where there’s a strong feeling of being in it together.
Elaine believes one of the primary reasons Pure Sunfarms is a great place to work is because of its values. She’s been fortunate to work in other fast-growth environments like Hootsuite and Aritzia, and recognized that establishing core values and foundational business essentials early at Pure Sunfarms was critical to rooting a strong culture. She worked to establish our H.E.A.R.T. values of Humility, Empathy, Accelerate, Reliability, and Team to guide us today and serve us well long into the future. Facilitating change and growth in people and the business drives her to do what she does, but she’s also motivated by struggles and challenges to look for ways to best support people in learning and self-discovery.
Rob really loves to see plants grow and thrive. It’s really that simple. It’s his passion and it has been his profession for the last 18 years. Before he came to Pure Sunfarms, he worked at Village Farms as a Grower and Facility Manager farming greenhouse tomatoes. When the opportunity arose to grow cannabis, Rob was all in. Having grown up in British Columbia as a fan of the plant, he was excited to get to know it at the growing level and learn how to make it thrive. Rob has extensive knowledge of the land and growing conditions of BC's Fraser Valley as well as hands-on experience in the science of greenhouse growing. He is now mentoring a new generation of greenhouse growers in an emerging industry. Together, with his team, they are expanding on the already strong legacy and reputation of BC-grown cannabis.
Miguel loves that each day is different at Pure Sunfarms and that rapid growth brings new challenges. He came to Pure Sunfarms most recently from Village Farms, and prior to that PricewaterhouseCoopers, which gave him the background to build cross-collaborative teams to oversee financial planning, debt financing, and budget management systems here. He’s discovered the new industry we are pioneering presents rapid changes and new challenges which is an opportunity to bring everyone together and fuel a strong sense of teamwork.
Maria believes what stands out about Pure Sunfarms is both a sense of humility and empathy. She joined Pure Sunfarms after 20 years building brands and developing new products at Labatt Breweries for names like Corona, Stella Artois and Bud Light. She was excited to see how progressive Pure Sunfarms was when it came to the type of culture it was building. She believes values like empathy are discussed a lot more in corporate culture these days, but at Pure Sunfarms it’s not lip service, it’s truly engrained in daily working life. She thinks taking the time to pause and understand perspectives only makes what we are doing together that much stronger and impactful – it’s how we build trust and learn from everyone around us.
