The wholesome intention which stems from self-care and natural ingredients made a place for itself with Woodlot, a Canadian line of premium, natural home, and body basics.

At the helm is health-conscious co-founder Sonia Chhinji, whose fascination with rituals and wellness inspired the collaboration with Pure Sunfarms, and the creation of the collection’s Palo Santo incense. Burning palo santo is a long-established practice for purification. Lighting these aromatic Woodlot bundles shifts a space’s stagnant energy and cleanses the mind of stressors.

Since rituals and wellness are important to Woodlot, we wanted to understand their importance for Sonia, and what self-care and wellness mean to her.

Our priority is to make products that are clean burning and made with simple, organic ingredients, but we’re also a scent company at heart, and we want our scent catalog to serve as a connection to the earth.

How did Woodlot come to be?  

My partner and I started Woodlot in our home a short while after we moved in together. We started to notice, particularly with candles, that a lot of what we were buying had ingredients that we weren’t so sure about. My partner has always known how to make soap, as this was his family’s tradition, and he’d learnt the process during his childhood in Lebanon. We started experimenting with our own candle recipes as well and began gifting soap and candles to friends and family. Pretty soon we realized that we had something.

What does self-care and wellness mean to you? 

The first things that come to mind are always nourishment, movement, breathing, sleep, and time for myself—not necessarily in that order, but those are the basics I try to focus on first and foremost.

Nature has always been our greatest source of inspiration when it comes to both ingredients and scent. Our priority is to make products that are clean burning and made with simple, organic ingredients, but we’re also a scent company at heart, and we want our scent catalog to serve as a connection to the earth. Vancouver, in particular, is inspiring for us. Living in a city that so beautifully exhibits all four seasons, allows us to stay in tune with constant growth and change. We believe these are key elements in the journey towards wellness as well.

What stimulated the Woodlot and Pure Sunfarms partnership?  

We feel honoured to be included in this opportunity—one that includes an assortment of everyday ritual-based products with a brand we consider our peer. We believe that partnerships like these expand community and create meaningful connections, giving us greater purpose, and serving as a reminder that we are a part of something bigger.
